The poultry sector in India has undergone a major change over the past two decades. The market of broiler meat has grown at 10% and accounts for half of the market size of all meat. To meet the increasing demand, the poultry industry of India widely uses antibiotics as growth promoters. Funded by A4NH, this project aims to understand the consumption patterns of key antibiotics in poultry value chains, study use, knowledge and practices pertaining to antibiotics in the poultry value chains, as well as identify key strategies and incentives to optimize the use of antibiotics. The project plans to review 30 poultry farms in Guwahati and Bangalore.
