Background
Efficient utilisation of Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR) in
developing countries is necessary to meet the future demands
of food to improve the livelihood of poor people. The productivity
of farm animals must increase to reduce malnutrition while
ensuring environmental sustainability. Animals and production
systems must be adapted to local environmental, socio-economic
and cultural conditions, and we have to ensure enough genetic
